Man VS Food

Have you ever seen the Travel Channel show Man V Food? The Host, Adam Richman, visits restaurants all over the country and test out their best, largest, or scariest menu item. This could range anywhere from giant burritos, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, hobenero hot wings, etc.

I honestly don't know who the host can devour some of the food because of it's massive size. I can do some pretty good eatin but I don't think I could hang. If it were my job I could do a little better. But besides the big time pig out sessions there are regular sized dishes that are amazing looking.

Me and Kayla's first glimpse of this show was live. We were visiting my wonderful friend Valorie Lott who lives in Memphis. She said we had to go to this chicken place called Gus's Chicken. So the 3 of us, hungover, went to eat some good ass chicken and the Travel Channel was filmin the intro of the show.

We didn't think much about it but long story short, they filmed Kayla eating some chicken. So blah blah we watched when it came on and it was fun to see us on the telly. But now i really love to watch the show and see what cool little place they visit next.

I was checkin it out about a few days ago and watched as they visited a little Mexican food place in East L.A. called El Tepeyac Cafe. It's home of the Manuel Special. This is a 5 lb burrito that is totally ridiculously large. But it's damn good. The owner is a nice old man who sometimes greets guest with a shot of tequila. Adam, the host of the show, finished the burrito like it was nothing. We wanted to check it out and see what the place was all about.

We ordered this big ass and when it was set on the table it was almost unbelievable. The picture above does it no justice. It looks 10 times bigger in person than picture. Amazing. We split it and did a nice job of tearing into the burrito. If we weren't headed to the beach and trying to not be a big fat ass I could have eatin a bit more. Oh yeah, it tasted awesome. It was soooo freakin good. It was pork with cheese, rice, guacamole, chile verde, and prolly some other good stuff.

We were waiting for our mammoth and I saw the owner behind me in the mirror. I noticed he looked at Kayla and she caught his eye. Sure enough he came over and sat dawn. He kissed her hand just like on the TV episode. He was so kind. He told her she looked like she was 16. I took my hat off and asked what about me. With no hesitation he said I looked like I was 80 just like him. We all giggled and before he left he asked us if we wanted a beer. Hell yeah!! So we got two beers at 11:30am for free. Yep. He is just a nice feller.

So, we left and went to the dog beach with Callie. Check the previous post. Damn. Now I I want to do is eat.

Cute Puppy VS The Ocean

Ok so our ridiculously cute dog Callie, made her first trip to the beach. She has never been in a swimming pool. The dreaded bath tub has been her only experience with water. She hate the Tub. There are a few dog beaches over here. I haven't found any that are very close to us but Long Beach is only about 30 miles away from where we are in Hollywood.

We made the drive south to the beach and settled in to our spot. Callie started off being on her leash because I wanted to make sure she was cool with the many others who were off leash. She was good to go. She was set free and and even did some wave jumping. Things were grand until she followed me out too far and was eaten by a small wave that was about to crash. It went about a foot over her head and made her face about an inch wide. It was pretty funny for us but not for her. After the face full of salt water she was done with the beach. All of the other dogs acted like they were in absolute paradise. They love the water.

There was every type of dog at this beach. The annoying dog, ugly dog, overweightdog, sissy dog, etc. The annoying dog actually trampled Kayla twice in about a span of 5 minute. I guess that is expected at that type of beach huh?

It's ok. We went back the very next day and gave Callie a second chance. She was a little better when it came to the water. She didn't get in it but at least got her feat wet. We'll take her again and I think she will get better with each trip. She seemed a little shy around the other dogs. The only other dogs she has been around she has been able to dominate. A strong 8 lb dog she is. But at the beach there are some intimidating dogs. She seemed shy. Either way it's pretty damn cute. We're looking forward to the next dog beach retreat.

This place was more than a club!

Well we did it fancy pantsy style on Thursday. There is a new club on Hollywood Blvd that opened called The Playhouse Hollywood . We were not on the list but yet we were on the list. Ah ha. Do you see? Our friend Greg knew one of the promoters and he gave us a name on the list at the door. Kayla's name was Kristina Melinchenko. It was soo something from a movie. We walked right past the losers standing in line and got right in with a fake name. It was great. I told Kayla to practice as we were walking there. We had to say the name of the promoter also. She did it perfect. "yeah we're on Todd's list. Kristina Melenchencko." Oh my gosh it was really really funny.

This club was insane. The drink menu was worse. There was a bottle of champagne that cost $12000. I promise there are not too many zeroes. I purchased two vodka redbulls and spent $20 bucks. That's really not much more than any bar in L.A. or Hollywood. Everything in this state is out of control.

One very interesting thing about this club was the many performers who were hanging and spinning from the ceiling. There were dudes and chicks both. There were regular dancers dressed in skimpy outfits, dudes hanging from cubes in dunce hats, chicks hanging and spinning from clothes as well as dudes spinning in just a little more than a speedo.

It was indeed opening night so there were a few DJ's who go to spin. The last one, with the most energy, was the worst. WAAAAAAY to loud and I didn't like the way he mixed. Oh well.

I'm really glad we went. I didn't know we were going anywhere that night so I super duper pigged out on our dinner and was possibly in the top 10 most full nights in my life. Did that make sense? I still enjoyed myself but wasn't able to drink many cold ones.

My buddy Greg told me that there were 3 owners who spent a total or 6 million to renovate the building and open the bar. It's like most buildings in Hollywood on the outside. It looks like trash on the inside. But damn they spent some Doe on the inside.

Kayla had a good time dancing and like I said I'm glad we went. However, I still prefer a bar with Beer, sports on several TVs, and hot wings, burgers, etc. So overall I rate the club very high but it's just not really my style. I'll gladly go again if you are buying the drinks. I'll go anytime
